Be You

My daughter often says to me, “Mom, you be you.” This is generally in response to me wanting to do something she disagrees with. But this is actually very good advice we all need to heed.

Did you know God was intentional when he made you? You were given purpose and personality before you were in your mother’s womb! You were not an accident. Your parents may not have planned you, but God did! He designed your skin color, your eye color, your hair color, and He gave you your talents and passions.

So the best way to honor God is for you to be you! Celebrate who God has called you to be! Celebrate your beauty and stop trying to look like others. Celebrate your giftings and stop trying to minister like others. Celebrate the call on your life and stop comparing your ministry to others. Celebrate who you are and stop trying to please those around you. Remember discipleship and cloning are not synonymous. You were uniquely created by the creator and if you are not you, than there is a hole in the universe!

So take heed of my daughter’s advice this morning and “You Be You” today. Unapologetically, no comparison, with freedom and joy, “You be you” because no one else can.

“The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.””
