A Day in the Life of Christ

Over the last couple of weeks I have been asking, WWJD? Today I’m asking how did Jesus do what He did. In Matthew 9, four specific miracles of Jesus are recorded. Jesus ministered to each person differently.

The hemorrhaging woman determined her own condition for healing. She put a demand on Christ without his knowledge but He turned, looked her in the eye, and called her daughter. She came to receive healing for her body, He healed her heart.

The young daughter was dead. Mourning had begun. Jesus enters and removes the unbelief from the room. This time He touches her. She was dead. She had no faith. But His touch restored her.

The blind cried after Him. But before He heals, He asked a question, “Do you believe I can do this?” Seems like an odd question since they cried out after Him. But their cry was for mercy. They needed sight, they asked for mercy. Perhaps Jesus sensed a unbelief within them. Maybe their cry was no different than when we ask God for strength to endure the sickness but lack faith He can annihilate the disease.

Then there was the mute. This man was brought to Jesus. He didn’t ask to be healed. He couldn’t. Jesus knew the root cause was demon oppression. Jesus spoke a Word, the demon left. The man was healed.

This is the lesson I am learning this morning. Healing is not a formula. We have to stop and ask God, what does this person need?” Sometimes they need to know they are still a son or a daughter, sometimes they need to be touched, sometimes they need faith, sometimes they need to be set free. Other than Jesus the only other common denominator in these stories is a yielding and listening to the Holy Spirit. God wants to heal wholistically.

So WWJD? Listen and yield to the Holy Spirit and minister individually to each person. Let’s do what Jesus did, how He did it.

But Jesus turning and seeing her said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.” At once the woman was made well.

But when the crowd had been sent out, He entered and took her by the hand, and the girl got up.

When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then He touched their eyes, saying, “It shall be done to you according to your faith.”

After the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds were amazed, and were saying, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.” (Matthew 9:22, 25, 28-29, 33 NASB)
