X-Ray Vision

A few weeks ago, I shared about an obnoxious student. He is a know it all and tries to usurp my authority. My goal this semester is to love him where he is. I must admit, it is a lofty goal and I am not always successful. But yesterday…

I had a rare free lunch period. No students, no meetings, no duty just me and my music alone in my room for 55 minutes. After five minutes of solitude, this student walked into my peaceful room. “Do you mind if I sit here and work,” he asked. “As long as my music doesn’t bother you,” I replied.

So me and this kid had lunch together. We had a conversation. I asked questions about his previous schools only to find out he has had a troubling past. In that 55 minute lunch, I saw past his outer shell, I saw past the obnoxious teenager, I saw past the rude, opinionated, extreme conservative, and saw a little boy who had been hurt, who was dealing with his own insecurities and his own demons. I saw what God sees when He looks at this kid.

This is our superpower. We have x-ray vision. God has given us the ability to see beyond people’s behavior and see their need, to see their hurting hearts.

Jesus saw beyond Matthew’s deception and cheating of his own people and saw a future writer of the gospel and a disciple.

Jesus saw beyond the Samaritan Woman’s current living conditions and saw an evangelist.

Jesus saw Zacchaeus hiding in a tree. He saw past Zacchaeus religious role and knew he was in need of true salvation.

Let us go out today and use our Holy Spirit x-ray vision. Let’s see beyond people’s mistake, beyond their sinful lifestyles, beyond their outer shells and see what God sees when He looks at them. Let’s see the person God created them to be in their mother’s womb before the enemy lied to them, before the hurt, before the pain they are trying so hard to mask.

And then let’s use our Holy Spirit words to speak life to them, to remind them who they were created to be. Let us use our supernatural hearts to love them where they are and show them kindness.

Our super powers can change the world, one person at a time, one conversation at a time.

“Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God who sees””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭16:13‬ ‭NASB‬‬
