Unbalanced Grace

Can I tell you a secret? Grace is NOT balanced. It is radical. Unbelievable. Incredible. It offends our sense of justice.

This is grace:
I did something wrong. I sinned. But then a Holy God said, “Wait a minute, Melissa. I will take your punishment. And you can walk away free as if you never sinned.” That’s absolutely crazy.

And I don’t get just one free pass, I have an unlimited number. That is nuts!

But then that’s not all. He then said  to me, “Regardless of your checkered past, I have prospered you, healed you, conjoined you with my Son, declared you righteous, never abandoned you, showed you favor, sat you in heavenly places and so much more.” That is unbelievable!

There is no balance in Grace. It’s all one-sided. God-sided.

Grace is so hard to believe that we come up with “doctrine” to try to balance it. We mix Old Testament with the New because we think there must be a catch. I must have to do something. God can’t be that good. Well, He’s better than we can imagine.

Does this make me want to sin? Nope. It makes me love Jesus even more. And Jesus said, “If you love me you will keep my commands.”

What? You mean Love is a better motivator than fear? Grace is a better teacher than the Law?

Let’s preach an incredible, unbelievable grace message that causes people to fall down in awe at the feet of Jesus.

“Loving me empowers you to obey my commands.”
